* Welcome to "Magnum BBS"(r) for OS/2 - version 6.00D2 -- 2-node DEMO *

Magnum BBS has been successfully running on ALL versions of OS/2 1.2 or higher
and OS/2 2.0.
The DEMO version of Magnum is a 2-node version (1 dialup + console node).
REQUIREMENTS:
------------
- A computer capable of running OS/2.
- OS/2 version 1.2 (or higher) Standard Edition or Extended Edition,
or OS/2 version 2.0.
- A modem, telephone line for the modem, and proper modem cabling.
- Recommended 5 Mb RAM (this figure includes the Operating System
itself). Magnum has run on systems with as little as 4 Mb RAM
(including the Operating System itself).
- Approximately 2 Mb free disk space to install. 5 Mb Recommened.
RESTRICTIONS:
------------
- Encryption of mail is NOT implemented in the demo version.
- Packing of the databases is NOT implemented in the demo version.
- Remote Mail (Magnum-to-Magnum mail) is NOT implemented in the demo version,
but is built into all commercial versions.
- The following limitations are imposed:
- Up to 128 USERS in the USER DATABASE
- Up to 128 FILES in the FILE DATABASE
- Up to 128 MESSAGES in the MESSAGE DATABASE
You will most likely run out of file space (in the file database)
or out of message space (in the message database) well before you'll
run out of space in the user database.
The commercial version will accept well over 2 billion entries (records)
in each of the databases.
- The following optional Magnum Modules ($) are available only for the
commercial releases and will NOT work with the DEMO version:
- Callback (provides mandatory or courtesy callback of users)
- Extended FileBase (provides up to 6,656 file areas)
- Extended MsgBase (provides up to 6,656 message conference areas)
- OS/2 Pipe Module (allows OS/2 workstations on a LAN to log onto Magnum
via the LAN without modems or telephones).
- DOS 5 Pipe Module (allows DOS 5 workstations on a LAN to log onto Magnum
via the LAN without modems or telephones).
- All 3rd-party Magnum utilities unless specifically stated by manufacturer

The file MAG6DOC.ZIP in the root directory of your distribution diskette
contains a compressed version of the Magnum User manual. Before you begin,
you'll need to print this file on your printer as follows:
1) Create a temporary subdirectory on your hard disk (should have 600K
free space):
MD C:\TEMP
CD C:\TEMP
2) With the distribution diskette in drive A, Uncompress the document
file:
A:\MAGNUM\PGM_DIR\PKUNZIP2 A:\MAG6DOC.ZIP
3) Make sure your printer is capable of printing 66 lines per page (it
should NOT skip lines at the paper perf), and that it can print at
80 characters per line (European printers should be set in condensed
print mode). Make sure you have approximately 272 sheets of paper in
your printer. Perform the following command to print the document:
COPY C:\TEMP\MAGNUM6.DOC PRN
Note that if you're using a duplex printer (ie: HP LJ IIId or IId),
you should set your printer for duplex printing (both sides). The
manual is set up with duplex printers in mind but can be printed with
any printer.
4) After the manual has successfully printed, remove the temporary
subdirectory:
DEL C:\TEMP\*.*
CD C:\
RD C:\TEMP
5) Refer to your hard-printed User Manual for installation instructions.
Note that the DEMO version of Magnum is a 2-node version (1 dialup
plus console node). Your "high-node" (console) configuration file is
STARTUP.2. Note that the user manual is virtually identical to the
commercial user manual.
NOTE: If you've been running the previous DEMO version of Magnum (5.02D2),
refer to the file MAG6.NEW located in A:\FROM5 for installation
instructions and a summary of the new features.

Prior to the official release of OS/2 version 2.0, our customers have been the
corporate clientelle. Now that OS/2 version 2.0 is officially released and in
the hands of the consumers, we have experienced higher volume and have reduced
our prices drastically and have introduced more configurations.
DARE to compare with ANY other commercially-available BBS on ANY platform,
be it OS/2, DOS, Unix, Windows, etc:
- More features, power and configurability than any other BBS.
- True multitasking built into Magnum BBS (not just the ability to
run under a multi-tasking operating system).
- Designed from the ground up for OS/2 specifically (not ported from
another operating system). Designed in 1988, tested in 1989, in use
since 1989.
- Competitive pricing.
- True LAN support (2 or more Magnum systems can be networked together).
- True LAN workstation support (pipe modules for OS/2 and DOS workstations)
so that users on the LAN can 'call' the BBS without modem or telephone
lines and can perform anything a regular modem user can do.
- Remote mail (Magnum-to-Magnum) supports CC's (carbon copies), Message
Forwarding, Receipts, and supports the following mail types: Direct
(point-to-point), Indirect (store-and-forward), Echo (store-post-forward),
Broadcast to Sysops only, Broadcast to ALL.
- Prompt technical support.
- Generous upgrade policy.
- Technical Support is always available at no charge to those who are
running the current 'ship-level' version of the software.
- Package comes with 6 months of 'Sysop Download Plan':
- 6 months of the ability to download any new releases or beta releases
- 6 month courtesy subscription to our "OS/2 File Download Areas" (huge)!
